Jakhania, a small village in the Dist. Of Kutch has a population of 1,500 people. The predominant population is farmers and labourers. Veerayatan Vidyapeeth, an ultramodern educational complex is spread over 24 acres of lush green environs and in an eco-friendly habitat situated at the outskirts of the Jakhania village. The complex is 11 Kms. away from Mandvi and the Dist. Headquarter, Bhuj is 45 Kms. away.
Kutch was the epicenter of a devastating earthquake in January 2001 which has caused havoc and severe damage to the buildings and permanent structures rendering them uninhabitable. More than 20,000 people lost their lives in this severe natural catastrophe.
Veerayatan was one of the first service organizations to set up temporary stopgap schools for over 6000 children who were otherwise literally roaming in the streets. On 10th June, 2001 Veerayatan Vidyapeeth was inaugurated in Bhuj to provide free formal education and residential facility to children who had lost one or both of their parents in the earthquake and children whose parents were too poor to send their children to school. The school has enrolled children irrespective of caste, creed or religion. Veerayatan has also started many vocational training centers in Kutch to enable people with new skills and to instill a sense of self-confidence and stability. The training included sewing, painting, motor rewinding, electrical wiring, spoken English and computing. Above 15,000 people were trained in these Vocational courses.
Kutch, nestled in the northwestern region of India is characterized by desert ecology. Due to poor rain fall in the region there is shortage of fertile land and people of the region are exposed to frequent natural calamities like drought, cyclone and earthquakes, due to which the region is economically and socially backward.
Progressive development of the people in the region was only possible by long term rehabilitation plans and provision of quality education. Hence, Veerayatan has conceived the promotion of quality educational care which will enhance and sustain the economic and social milieu of the region. The overwhelming support and love of people of Kutch prompted Veerayatan for the establishment of educational complexes at several places in Kutch. ‘Well begin is half done’ and the starting of ultramodern educational complex at Jakhania was just the beginning.

Veerayatan Vidyapeeth, Rudrani
Village: Rudrani, Bhuj – Khavda Road, District: Kutch, State: Gujarat,Country: India
Since the year 2001, Veerayatan Vidyapeeth, Kutch has also been patronizing an educational complex at Rudrani which is about 16 kms. away from Bhuj. The educational complex is surrounded by orchards, greenery and nestled in the lap of Rudramata Dam. There are 10 classrooms aesthetically built in traditional Kutchi architecture where more than 250 children belonging to the underprivileged, socially and economically backward classes receive totally free education, transport and study material. The population in and around the Rudrani village consists of mostly Harijans, Koli, Muslims and Rabaris. Who have not seen the doors of any educational institute. Many of them have migrated from the border regions in search of jobs and employment.
Veerayatan Vidyapeeth, Rudrani offers ample opportunities for the volunteers in learning the traditional village craft of embroidery at its vocational center. The volunteers can teach English, play new games with children, provide skills of public speaking and instill a sense of self confidence in children.
Village: Darakwadi, District: Pune, State: Maharashtra, Country: India
Amidst rolling green hills and open countryside, Veerayatan has established a site near Pune, Maharashtra, called Navalveerayatan. Located on a plateau overlooking a lake, Navalveerayatan provides a serene location for spiritual learning, inner development and team building.
Veerayatan runs residential courses of various durations, from one day to three months. There are also special courses for young women, families and business executives.
Through modern techniques of instruction, workshops and discussion, Navalveerayatan focuses on self-understanding and inner peace. Examples of courses run are Setu - where participants learn about stress management, presentation giving, positive attitude towards work and ways to make it more enjoyable and how to create a better work life balance. Other courses teach meditation, yoga, new age health therapies and studies of Jainism, Buddhism, Hinduism and other religions.

The foundation of Veerayatan was laid in 1973. The site of Veerayatan is located at the foot of the Vaibhagiri hills on the outskirts of the ancient city of Rajgir (once the capital of the Magadha empire), Bihar State, India. It covers an area of 40 acres. The site is rich in its historical heritage where the undercurrents of Jainism, Buddhism and the Vedic religion meet.
In the last 35 years Veerayatan has provided free treatment for over 750,000 patients.
Veerayatan is home of the world-renowned eye hospital- Netra Jyoti Seva Mandiram. Several types of eye surgeries have been performed successfully on patients ranging from 8 months to 96 years of age. Over 200,000 eye surgeries have been performed completely free of charge or highly subsidized in this hospital. The indoor department has a capacity of 150 beds. It is scrupulously clean, well lit, airy, and surrounded by a garden of roses. Basic pathological tests, eyeglasses, medicine, and nutritious meals are provided either free or at a highly subsidized rate. To date (end of 2006), over 200,000 cataract operations have been performed at the hospital by a highly specialized team of dedicated doctors. The installation of computers in patient registration and inventory control has contributed to the efficient running of the hospital.
In addition to eye care, the hospital hosts orthopedic clinics and polio camps several times a month where patients are given prosthetic limbs free of charge. A 50-bed polio hospital was started in 2001. Tricycles and calipers are given to disabled patients to aid in their mobility.

Village Licchuwad, Dist. Jamui State: Jarkhand, Country: India
Licchuwad, the birth place of Tirthankar Mahavir, capital city during the reign of king Siddhartha, was ones a land of great opportunities. As the teaching of Tirthankar Mahavir spread light across the world to lead us away from evil darkness, Licchuwad soon descended in to darkness of illiteracy, backwardness, extreme poverty and mist of illusion. The children were roaming around begging and never had educational opportunity.
Veerayatan took up the challenge in collaboration with JAINA – USA to start a school in the village of Licchuwad in the year 2001, the auspicious occasion of 2600 Tirthankar Mahavir’s Jayanti. Today, Tirthankar Mahavir Vidya Mandir School with dedicated experienced teachers is conducting classes up to Std. 8 with medium of instruction in English & Hindi. Over 300 students are getting benefit of education which they would have not dreamed of.
The school has library, computer center, sewing center, medical facility and many school buses to bring children from nearby villages. The children are encouraged to participate in sports activity as school has football fields, cricket pitches, badminton courts and all types of indoor games.
Also a general dispensary and mobile van facility has been established to meet the needs of surrounding village populace. Many volunteers come here to create awareness among local people for hygiene, literacy and other educational programme.
Village Pawapuri, Dist. Nalanda, State: Bihar, Country: India
About 25 Km away from Rajgir, Pawapuri – The Nirvan Bhumi of Tirthankar Mahavir has many temples including the famous “JALMANDIR”. However it lacked temple of learning. The lack of education has resulted in under development of this area.
Acharya Shri Chandanaji believes that “Preservation of the history lies in developing a pilgrimage place”. The holy places of pilgrimage have temples for worship and Dharamshalas to stay but they lack centers imparting good quality education. To fill up this gap, Acharya Shri Chandanaji with the help of Sadhvijis and dedicated volunteers, has established Tirthankar Mahavir Vidya Mandir, a modern school at Pawapuri.
Today, the school is offering value based education from nursery to std. 7th. The school is encouraging more than 475 students to pursue the education to realize their dream.
Volunteers can be of great help in teaching English language, computers and self development traits.
