NEWS UPDATES January 2009

New school and college for bihar

Veerayatan is delighted to announce that, thanks to your support, our new Tirthankar Mahavir Vidya Mandir (Temple of Learning) and new Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) College have been inaugurated in Pawapuri, Bihar.  There are already 400 students from the first to ninth standard attending the vidya mandir.  And there are more than 100 students enrolled in the education program, which has been running since July 2008. We were delighted to welcome Deputy Minister Shri Sushil Kumar Modi and Shri Rasikbhai Dhariwal as the chief guests of honour at the inauguration.  Inspiration for the event came from Acharya Shri Chandanji Maharaj who said that instead of building temples in villages, we should make efforts to turn villages into temples, that is, sites for full social and inner human development.

Pujya Shri Upadhyaya Amar Muniji Maharaj’s birthplace to be honoured with new social development program

Veerayatan has adopted the village of Gadha in Narnol District of Hariyana, where Pujya Shri Amar Muniji Maharaj, the spirit behind Veerayatan, was born 100 years ago. Veerayatan has already begun providing clean drinking water to villagers who previously had to walk several kilometers in search of water.  Over the next year, Veerayatan will also build the village’s first elementary school and open a vocational training program in the village.

Thousands of Rupees Raised in First Ever Veerayatan Cycling For Charity Event

More than 190 children and adults pedaled over 300 kilometres, from Agra to Jaipur, to raise funds for Veerayatan’s children’s programs.  The group left the home of the Taj Mahal on December 29th, 2008 and arrived at the Jaipur Palace in Rajasthan five days later.  Participants came from as far away as the United States and England.

One Hundred Acre Donation Received for Tirthankar Mahavir University

Veerayatan is celebrating the most recent donation of 100 acres of land in Mundra, Kutch, about 60 kilometres south of Bhuj.  The land will be used to house many colleges of the university to meet the demands of upcoming industries in Kutch.  Veerayatan thanks Ancharwala Ahimnsa Dham for their very generous donation.
