Immediately following the devastating January 2001 earthquake in Kutch, India, Veerayatan instantly resolved to work for the welfare of affected children.

Though Veerayatan was able to provide relief materials to thousands of families immediately following the disaster, its greater, more sustainable impact has been through its work with the children of Kutch.

In June 2001, Veerayatan established a residential dormitory for orphaned children, single parent or children who were otherwise economically disadvantaged.

After rehabilitating several children affected by earthquake of 2001 at Bhuj, Veerayatan decided to develop a multipurpose educational complex at Jakhania. The children from the family of economically and socially backward class having impressive education record but could not pursue further study for want of fees are accepted in Veerayatan educational complex at Jakhania. – Kutch.

These children have become part of Veerayatan’s family, where they now live in a stable and emotionally supportive environment. Along with obtaining a top quality education, Veerayatan’s children enjoy opportunities for self-growth, inner and personal development. Veerayatan’s loving embrace has allowed these children to cope with their past, rebuild their trust and develop their self-confidence. Today, more than 100 children live on Veerayatan’s campus either free or at a highly subsidized contribution.

At village Rudrani about 16 Km away from Bhuj many migrated family from the border region resides. The children of these families had not seen the doors of any educational institute. They also needed special attention and continuation of educational activities on a permanent basis to have better future for their children in this competitive age. Around 300 children enrolled themselves in our temporary school.

Today, in the lap of Rudramata Dam in the newly constructed school building consisting of 10 classrooms beautifully built in traditional Kutchi architecture, more than 300 children belonging to the underprivileged, socially and economically backward classes are receiving absolutely free education, free transport, study material, uniform etc. With the support of Veerayatan, children at Rudrani School are getting more confidence becoming more presentable and enthusiastic about their future.

In addition to boarding facility to children there are about more than 2000 children receiving free or highly subsidies academic value education at Veerayatan’s Jakhania, Rudrani, Pawapuri & Licchuwad schools.

  • For Rs.7,000/- you can sponsor education expenses for one child in Veerayatan‘s school for one year.
